Reviewer's Summary: New York's Finest Dosas
Desperate for that spicy, crispy Masala Dosa?

Despair not
.

One visit to New York City's only Dosa cart - at Washington Square Park South - will banish your gloom away and restore that Julia Roberts smile.

Run by Thiru Kumar of Sri Lanka, NY Dosas offers a variety of spicy Dosas - Sadha Dosa, Rava Dosa, Masala Dosa, Uthappam and the hot favorite, the Pondicherry Dosa.

Thiru's Dosas come in various kinds: Sadha Dosa, Rava Dosa, Masala Dosa, Pondicherry Dosa, Uthappam and mixed Vegetable Uthappam. The current favorite is the Pondicherry Dosa, a crepe made of lentils and rice and filled with potatoes and fresh vegetables.

Mindful of the different palates he caters to, Thiru offers customers a choice of mild or spicy dosas. If you are an Indian, ask for the spicy Dosas and you won't be disappointed.

After you place your order, the Dosas are made fresh in front of your eyes. The yummy Dosas are offered in disposable containers with chutney and delicious sambar.

You can enjoy the spicy Dosas right there in the park or take 'em to your office or home for a relaxed meal.

Thiru's Dosas are not greasy as most Dosas in New york restaurants unfortunately are. It's the lack of excess oil that imparts a fine taste and flavor to Thiru's Dosas.

Besides Dosas, Thiru offers Idli, Medhu Vada, Samosa, Vegetable Rolls and a wide selection of cold drinks to sate your thirst.

The prices are moderate. For instance, the Pondicherry Dosa is $5, the Rava Dosa $4 and the Sadha Dosa $3.

Dosas are a perennial South Indian favorite, particularly in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, but are now finding favor beyond the Vindhyas too. Some of our fondest childhood memories are of gorging on heaps of Masala Dosas.

If you are like us and the very word Dosa sends you salivating, head pronto to Thiru's cart at Washington Square Park South in Manhattan.

Be prepared to stand in line though. For the popularity of these Dosas has already spread across the greater New York metropolitan region.

Just in case you are wondering. Thiru is from Sri Lanka and came to the U.S. after winning the Green Card lottery.
